State Minister for Mental Health, Martin Foley, has joined mental health organisations calling for funding certainty from the federal government. Seventy organisations have signed a letter to Prime Minister Tony Abbott, about hundreds of mental health service contracts that don’t have a funding guarantee beyond June 30. “Those seventy organisations have written to the Prime Minister to say these community based programs are the ones showing the best results and they’re the ones most at risk,” Mr Foley said. “The Victorian Government partners with many of those organisations to deliver those programs so we would join those calls and call upon the Abbott Liberal Government to secure those community based support services.” Gippsland Nationals MP Darren Chester said his government is taking the issue seriously. “People have been talking about cuts as though they are a done deal and it is going to happen but I think that is a little bit unfortunate when we’ve still got three months to go on the current agreement,” he said.
