A HEALTHY donation is getting patients moving both physically and mentally at Nambour General Hospital. Wishlist has granted the mental health unit more than $8000 to purchase new exercise equipment to provide the tools needed for a holistic recovery process for patients. The new bikes and exercise steps represent the start of a focus on physical health to accompany mental health recovery at the specialised unit. Clinical nurse and healthy lifestyles co-ordinator Dale Jobson said the approach was a welcome addition to the mental health unit’s resources. “There is a firm belief that physical health, spiritual health and mental health go hand-in-hand, so you need all three to have good balance in life,” Mr Jobson said. “Depression and mental illness can be debilitating and therefore people tend to put the energy required for physical health to the background. This new equipment will help encourage patients to re-start that thought process and focus on their physical health, not just their mental health.”images

Wishlist is a charity organisation that raises funds for the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health service.”This equipment is a small step towards enhancing the needs of the mental health ward and we’re hoping to further work with staff to identify needs to create a warmer, more comfortable space for patients,” Wishlist marketing manager Alyssah Padget said.
