The Member for Barker says Mount Gambier is a strong contender for a youth mental health facility known as Headspace.

The Federal Government committed to opening a further 10 centres around the country in this year’s federal budget.207412-3x2-340x227

Tony Pasin says he has met the Mount Gambier City Council and letters supporting such a facility have been sent to the Health Minister.

However, Mr Pasin says it is ultimately up to Headspace to decide where the centres are located.

“In speaking to Headspace directly I’ve been encouraged that we’re certainly being considered strongly,” he said.

“The work myself and the City of Mount Gambier are doing is hopefully trying to get us over the line but like all things if we’re not successful this round we’ll keep fighting the good fight.

“There is a Headspace facility in Barker, it’s at Murray Bridge, which I’ve drawn to the Minister’s attention, which is 40 minutes from Adelaide and a much smaller community than Mount Gambier.

“So I’m using those markers that Mount Gambier is in desperate need of a Headspace facility, the community supports it.”
